Eric Rizzo
Instructor
Originally from the Delaware Valley, Eric Rizzo is a freelance musician and teacher currently based in New England. He holds degrees from New England Conservatory and Yale School of Music, and is currently in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Connecticut. Eric is the first recipient in the music department of the Harriott Fellowship at the UConn Graduate School. As a performer, he is a member of the Boston Festival Orchestra, and has performed with the Hartford, Greenwich, and Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Vista Philharmonic. He has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Lake George Music Festival. In 2020 he was a finalist in the Ictus International Music Competition for his recording of Mauricio Kagel’s Morceau de Concours, composed in 1977 for solo trumpet.

Deeply committed to education, Eric has worked closely with students of all backgrounds in Philadelphia, Boston, and throughout Connecticut. At New England Conservatory, his brass quintet was awarded a fellowship as part of the Community Performances and Partnerships program, and he also served as a Teaching Artist through Yale School of Music’s Music in Schools Initiative. Between his time at NEC and Yale, he taught music in the public schools of Bridgeport, CT. He is currently the brass instructor at Pomfret School and Rectory School, both in Pomfret, CT.

Aside from music, Eric is an avid long-distance runner who has completed multiple marathons. He enjoys traveling and reading, and is literate in French and Spanish.
