Matt Merton

As a child, Matt was exposed to music's meaning and emotion through his father who performed in the house every day. That simple act helped shape Matt and set him on his musical career path.

In his lessons, Matt focuses on fundamentals of rhythm, pitch, and reading; the foundation for any musician to become proficient and excel in various musical styles. . He uses call and response exercises with Middle Eastern subdivision syllables "ta - ka - di - mi" to strengthen students' oral and organic skills.

In addition to teaching, Matt currently plays in multiple indie rock projects and bands in the greater Hartford/New Haven area on guitar and bass, as a front man and a side man.
